Soundbites From the Edge

Wikipedia: Soundbite: Characterized by a short phrase or sentence that deftly captures the essence of what the speaker is trying to say. Such key moments in dialogue (or monologue) stand out better in the audience's memory and thus become the "taste" that best represents the entire "meal" of the larger message or conversation. Sound bites are a natural consequence of people placing ever greater emphasis on summarizing ever-increasing amounts of information in their lives. Welcome.

Crafting with poultry shears

For my wedding I was gifted a delightful set of poultry shears. (forgive me dear reader if you are the one who gifted them to me) I had not used them, even once, for their intended purpose. These Williams Sonoma stainless steel shears seemed too pretty to meet up with flesh and as it turns out, they make for excellent crafting scissors with their serrated, diagonal teeth! I've even cut my own bangs with them, which was unfortunate, primarily because I shouldn't have bangs and secondarily because they are called poultry shears for a reason. This was a regrettable, unfortunate time for me and I wore many a hat to avoid having to explain to people that I made the assumption that poultry shears have transferable skills.

So 2,250 days after these shears were gifted to me, I decided to use them for their intended purpose. It was really just because it was "Crock Pot Thursday" and I had 5 minutes to cube up 1.5 lbs of poultry flesh before racing off to meet our pals at the playground. I realized 2 things in my franticicity - I realized that not only would the shears be more efficient (as opposed to a sawing action with the knife), the contamination would not be nearly as vast as if I cut the poultry flesh with a knife and this was soothing to my obsessive compulsive self.

I have to say. It went quite well. This is excellent technology and I expect to use it with great frequency. No more fancy cuts on the colored paper... no more fancy bang shredding...
